Iridescent Winter
Sleet splattered against the hollow tin roof,
As I painted at home by the flickering firelight.
The brush flirted gently with the canvas,
Using tender, precise strokes of paint
To show the most minute of details,
Each sphere of snow and needle on the pines.
The rough fibers on the canvas
Absorbed the rich linen, porcelain, and pearl.
The brush tinkled against the glass of the jar,
Blending multitudes of whites into a cloud of fog.
Just like Nature does in the subtle colors of winter.
The sky, streaked with meringue, highlighted the
Mountains that shed a snowy mixture of Chantilly cream,
Down into a marbled flowing river.
Mysterious conifers with frosty white armor guarded the masses of rock.
The winter world appears devoid of color,
But it hosts them all in each iridescent snowflake.
