Passage
The gates swing down, their red lights flashing
brilliant in the dark. Across the tracks another
car waits, its headlights spotlighting me
between each boxcar. Graffiti flies by
too fast to read. Electric wail from the radio,
then comes the chorus, singing of love. No telling
whether it’s been lost or found.
The end and the beginning have vanished
in the kind of darkness that only exists
in the middle of nowhere.
